ANNO DOMINI 1510
The terroir of the Steitz vineyards is defined by volcanic rocks, with the main protagonists being andesite and porphyry. Both these volcanic rock types are a geological particularity of our region, since both of them can be found on less than one percent of Rheinhessen’s total acreage.
Both andesite and porphyry came into being through volcanic activity 280-290 million years ago, during the geological period called Permian. They offer an exciting potential for wines that are extremely rich in minerals and have a unique character as well as great maturation potential.
