ORTSWEIN | VILLAGE WINE
STEITZ ORTSWEINE (village wines) originate from the premium volcanic rock sites in the villages of Neu-Bamberg and Stein-Bockenheim.
Our Pinot Blanc has its home on the soils of Stein-Bockenheim, and our Riesling grows in Neu-Bamberg. Low yields of selected, fully ripe grapes form the basis of these individual wines.
As a rule, the Ortsweine ferment in large barrels with their natural yeast strains (a process better known as “spontaneous fermentation”). If this is combined with variable maceration times and long maturation on the fine lees, dense, characterful, yet always buoyantly vibrant wines are produced, which are very definitely reminiscent of the respective rock types andesite and porphyry.
